If we create a culture that promotes well-being and prosperity for all,
then we will be in a position to discover who we really are.

Ramping up the sustainability conversation to the level of whole system change

Our goal is not modest. It is to inspire mainstream commitment to turning things around.

The Great Transition Splash will kickstart the conversations necessary to enable people to come to grips with the transformational changes necessary to pull us out of our ecological nosedive. It will be in September, 2019.

During the lead-up we are inviting individuals, organisations and opinion leaders to commit to communicate in some fashion about the goal of transitioning to a life affirming culture during the Splash. Ready-to-use communication tools are in the Resources section of this website, and of course people can devise their own.

Our deeper intent is that as a globalised civilisation we evolve the attitudes and institutions that will enable us to operate within planetary boundaries.

To change everything, we need everyone.

To change the system, change the thinking.

We are seeking expressions of interest [This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.] in doing an ‘action’ during the Splash. An action could be as simple as sending an email to your personal networks about the goal of transitioning to a life affirming culture. Or it could be training your entire staff (voluntarily) to conduct Kitchen Table Conversations with people they know.

 Additional possibilities include:

  • Posting blogs and other social media.
  • Publishing articles (takes lead time).
  • Guerrilla marketing tactics such as putting flyers and videos in professional waiting rooms.
  • At the end of talks on any environmental and social topic, inviting members of the audience to become citizen-educators.
  • Organising workshops and conferences.
  • Large activist groups encouraging their members to be citizen educators.
  • Training staff in the principles of ecological sustainability.
  • And at quite a different level, people experienced in ‘inner work’ offering workshops in do-it-yourself techniques for resolving emotional issues.

The idea of whole system change to a life affirming culture, and the idea of helping people think better, both of which are central to the Great Transition Initiative approach, are unfamiliar to most of us. It is not a matter of intellect, competence, or general ability. It is simply a different way of thinking that most of us have not given much attention to. It derives from the insights into the neurology of improving skilled behaviour. During the lead-up we will offer occasional webinars about this new paradigm.

We believe we have an innovative approach that can make a significant contribution to the evolution to a life-affirming culture.

If you are intend to do an action (no matter how small or large) during the Great Transition Splash, please send us an email about it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will add it to our events map, and keep you in the loop.
